  1. Hit the Win+R keys on your keyboard at the same time to launch the Run box.
  2. Put in regedit to browse the Windows Registry.
  3. Head to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows directory using the left side menu.
  4. Make a fresh key in the Windows folder.
  5. To make that happen, perform a right-click on the folder.
  6. After that, choose New.
  7. Go to Key.
  8. Rename the newly created key or folder with Windows Update.
  9. Now make a new key inside the Windows Update folder you created.
  10. Rename it as AU.
  11. In the AU folder, make a DWORD (32-bit value) key and name it NoAutoUpdate.
  12. Then change the value of this newly created key from 0 to 1.
  13. Reboot the device to take effects.

Method 4: Using Group Policy Editor

Follow these instructions to deactivate Windows automatic updates forever:

  1. Head to Run via tapping the Win+R keys together on your keyboard.
  2. Put in gpedit.msc.
  3. Go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update
  4. Head to the Configure Automatic Updates file or policy.
  5. Now select the Disabled button to disable automatic updates.
  6. Head to Apply and then go to OK.

Method 5: Via WUSHOWHIDE Tool

  1. First and foremost, download the software named WUSHOWHIDE troubleshooter using the Microsoft Download Center.
  2. Once downloaded, launch the wushowhide.diagcab on your system and obey the on-screen guidance.
  3. Head to Advanced and then unselect the option named Apply repairs automatically.
  4. Hit Next.
  5. Navigate to Hide Updates to choose a specific update service that you want to deactivate.
  6. Keep in mind the update has to be downloaded to your device to deactivate with the help of WUSHOWHIDE.
