5 Emblems of Regalia Explained

by Ashish K. Articles
The Knights Templar was a powerful force in the Middle-Ages and its members were among the wealthiest in the Western Christian military orders. This is where the Masonic order Knights Templar derives their name, although they are not exactly a direct descendant of the group. The Masonic order, however, holds the same amount of power and wealth not in a military sense, but in terms of knowledge, morality, and other similar aspects. The British made craft regalia in UK and in other countries are similar to the Canadian templar regalia. Here is the list of similarities among the English & Canadian regalia.

®    Mantle
The mantle is a stitched white cloth and has a large patch of the Red Cross on the left shoulder. It indicates that the knight has earned the title of ‘Sir’. The preceptors wear a similar mantle with a single red stripe on the edge. As the knight is promoted to the post of an officer, the shape of the cross is changed. The individual wears a patriarchal cross that is also worn by the Grand Priory officers (eminent knights). The grandmaster of all orders wears the mantle trimmed in purple and affixed with a triple-barred cross.
®    Chapeau
The Chapeau or cap is a red cap. It is a pillbox style of a red cap having a Christian cross in the front. This cap is worn by the knights with the title ‘Sir’. On the other hand, the same cap with a patriarchal cross is worn by the preceptor.
®    Seven-Pointed Star
The seven-pointed star is an important emblem of the order. It is the British made craft regalia in UK that is worn over the heart. The preceptors under the age of one hundred years carry the silver-colored seven-pointed star, whereas, the golden-colored seven-pointed star is for the knights/officers who have passed a century of existence.
®    Jewel
The jewel is an accessory that hangs from the pocket of the jacket. It depicts three different medals of the three orders- The Illustrious Order of the Red Cross, The Order of Malta, and The Order of Temple.
®    Sword
A sword is also regarded as an important part of the Templar. The nickel-plated sheath sword holders were the knights with the title ‘Sir’ and preceptors were awarded the gold-plated swords. In the previous eras, ornamentation of the sword was prohibited but in the present day scenario, it is acceptable.

The English & Canadian regalia have the similarities that you just read. The major contrast in the list is the bedecked sword that was previously forbidden. The regalia depend on the post of the individual as a knight, eminent knight, and officer.
