5 Corporate Wellness Perks Your Employees Will Love

by Claire J. Content Manager

Over the last few years, there has been more of a focus on the idea of corporate wellness and what companies can do in order to support the mental, emotional, and physical health of their employees. This is the interest of employers because those employees who are most productive are the ones who are happy and healthy. Offering various office perks is one way of ensuring a sense of corporate wellness in your workplace. These are five office perks that will not only promote wellness but also get a big thumbs up from your employees.

1. Fresh, Healthy Snacks

Having healthy and fresh snacks available in the office is good for both employees and employers. We work more productively when we have good, nutritious food as fuel and encouraging employees to eat healthily and listen to what their bodies need is going to have an impact on how they feel, and work, on a day-to-day basis. Currently, vending machines or convenience stores often only have sugary or salty snacks on offer and when you feel that afternoon slump, as an employee, it can be easy to give into temptation and buying yourself a chocolate bar or packet of chips you don’t need. While this might make you feel better in the moment, it won’t provide you with the long-lasting energy you need and could ultimately make you feel worse. By offering healthy snacks in the office, you will make it more convenient, and cheaper, for your employees to maintain a healthy lifestyle. And don’t forget, everyone loves free food!

2. Massages in the Office

A combination of stress at work and sitting down all day can do mental and physical harm to our bodies. However, something that can ease these kinds of tension, whether in your mind or in your lower back, is a massage. Offering massages in the workplace are something that all employees can benefit from and appreciate regardless of their age or the kind of postural stress they might be under. Many employees probably wouldn’t take the time out of their day or spend the money on a massage themselves so this is an office perk that can seem extra luxurious and special. Giving employees time for themselves, to destress and have their muscles soothed, will improve productivity and prevent any overuse injuries they may be susceptible to from the nature of their work. Corporate massage services can be done in all different types of offices and can have an instant effect on an employee’s feeling of wellbeing.

3. Office Pooches

Dogs in the office might sound distracting but they can actually have a lot of health benefits and reduce stress levels in the workplace. Allowing people to bring their dogs to work, or having an office dog, has been proven to boost the mood of employees. Patting or cuddling with a pet has a chemical effect on humans and helps to promote the production of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin that make use feel less stressed, more content and more driven. In the right type of office (one that is spacious enough for dogs to roam a bit), having dogs around can have a positive impact on the atmosphere.

4. On-Site Fitness

Gym memberships can be a financial drain and employees may not feel particularly motivated to exercise if it means driving to a gym after a long day of work. On-site fitness options, whether it be a gym in the complex or classes available, encourage employees to take the time out of their day to do physical activity and this is very important if it’s an office where workers spend a lot of the day seated. Exercise has physical and mental health benefits. It energises and refreshes us and this can help with feelings of motivation.

5. Mindfulness Programs

While it’s important to encourage wellness programs that make employees feel physically better, such as exercise and massages, it’s also important to train employees to tackle any mental health challenges they may be facing and to focus on ways employees can reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression. Implementing mindfulness-based practice and meditation in the workplace experience not only has an impact on employees in the office but also encourages employees to incorporate mindfulness into their daily routine and at home as well.
