5 Amazing Exhibitions Not To Miss In London This Autumn

Let’s face it: one of the most powerful reasons to look for Houses In Croydon is the fact that once you’re settled in somewhere like one of our gorgeous ISLAND apartments, you’ll have all of the cultural treasures of London on your doorstep. So why don’t we take a closer look at some of them?

London wouldn’t be London without a continually changing series of thought-provoking exhibitions of art and photography – so we decided to pick out just five of the best this October and November.

Rachel White read, Tate Britain

The notorious Young British Artists generation of the late 1990s and 2000s wasn’t always about shock for shock’s sake – it also gave us artists who could create works lending themselves to careful contemplation. White read has long been known for her casts of negative spaces of the likes of fireplaces, baths and closets. When seen together in a show like this, they really do tug at the emotions. Catch it at Tate Britain until 4^th February.

5000 Years of Science and Innovation, Science Museum

The Illuminating India series of exhibitions and events at South Kensington’s Science Museum celebrates India’s influence on science, technology and mathematics around the world. This is one of the two major exhibitions at the heart of it all, taking you on a journey through the remarkable story of Indian innovation and discovery. It starts on 4^th October and continues until the end of March.

Jasper Johns: Something Resembling Truth, Royal Academy of Arts

The 87-year-old painter, sculptor and printmaker was a leading force in Abstract expressionism, Neo-Dada and Pop art, thanks in no small part to the incredible simplicity and clarity of his ideas that made a dramatic splash in the pained and overwrought world of 1950s New York. This retrospective is only on from 29^th September until 10^th December, however, so we would urge you to make a quick date for the Royal Academy.

Poster Girls, London Transport Museum

Girl power is shown to full effect at this exhibition dedicated to key female graphic artists who have designed for London Transport and Transport for London during the 20^th and 21^st centuries. Alongside beautiful original posters from the museum’s collection, you can see the likes of letters, photographs, ceramics and original artworks that provide vital context. This one launches on 13^th October and runs until 1^st January 2018.

North: Fashioning Identity, Somerset House

It may seem odd for us to be talking to you about houses in Croydon while also pointing away from the capital, but in the case of this exhibition of great photography, fashion and art from the North of England, it’s more than justified. More than 100 photographs will be on show, capturing visions of this often-overlooked part of the country from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Birkenhead. The show opens on 8^th November and continues until 4^th February.
