4 Ways to Make Training Workshops More Engaging

by Amal A. Research Analyst

Keeping people focused and engaged in today’s world can prove to be tricky, considering the fact that the average attention span of a worker is no more than three minutes, as stated by an informatics professor at the University of California. To make training sessions with your staff more interactive and engaging, several ideas and concepts can be incorporated into workshops which can prove to be beneficial.

Define Your Objectives

The trainer must have a specific goal which they must define at the start of the workshop. Once there is a set objective, it is also easier for the audience to understand what they will eventually learn from the session that they are attending, whether it is about how to achieve customer service excellence, or any other topic. Furthermore, by clearly knowing the objective of the session, the audience will also stay more engaged until the end to actually learn how to achieve it.

Select the Right Trainer

To make the training workshop more interesting for the audience, it is really important that the trainer is truly inspiring, adaptive, innovative, have strong communication skills, and make the training session a memorable one for the listeners. It is highly likely that the audience will lose interest if the trainer is dull or boring. Therefore, before carrying out a workshop, it is vital to select the most appropriate trainer who can deliver a strong message by keeping the audience engaged.

Keep the Session Interactive and Diverse

Find interesting ways through which the workshop can be more interactive for the audience. Not only will this help to keep the audience more engaged, but it will also increase the level of interest they have while attending it. Training workshops could be made more exciting by adding a Q&A session, or by adding poll questions and then immediately share their results and have a discussion with everyone attending the workshop. For customer service training programs, games can be played during the session which will not only be fun but also help participants learn necessary skills. Moreover, the training workshops should not be repetitive in nature. If a number of workshops are required for the same purpose, they can be split on a module basis such that each module is covered on a monthly or weekly basis. For example, if a workshop is being held on communication skills, it can be split into different modules where each module covers a different topic so as to avoid redundancy and make the session more open and diverse.

Include Visual Content

Before carrying out training workshops, always think about how to effectively engage the audience. This could be done by incorporating infographics, videos or pictures which will help listeners stay attentive rather than losing interest. All the information presented must be relevant and interesting. Eventually, by effectively using visual content, the audience will be better engaged and stay more attentive from start till the end.

By effectively using the above techniques, training workshops can be made more interactive to effectively deliver the actual message to the audience.
