4 Types of Meter Provers for Various Applications

by Oil and gas Systems international Manufacturer
Meter provers are used to detect variations in the volume of gas or liquid flowing through a pipe over time. Every prover is equipped with cutting-edge sensors that detect any changes in fluid or gas streams. The entire procedure assures that meter readings are always correct.

There are diverse kinds of provers available in the market, and you can pick the one that best suits your demands. Let's have a look at the many varieties of provers:

Master Meter Prover

Both direct and indirect calibration can be done with master meter provers. A line meter and a master meter are used in direct master meter proving arrangements. This type of proving is done on the transfer pipeline site. The use of indirect master meter proving, on the other hand, necessitates separation from the gas meter. The measurement is taken at a remote location. Metering equipment in this scenario necessitates the use of prover connectors.

Pipe Meter Prover

Pipe provers are sometimes referred to as spherical and ball provers. These provers, which work on the idea of continually duplicated liquid migrations in defined amounts, help compare volumes so that appropriate corrections can be made. The attached meter does the computations as the fluid travels inside the ball prover.

Uni-Directional Meter Prover

Unidirectional provers are a type of sphere meter prover in which the displacement ball travels in a single direction that pretty much justifies the name. The sphere traverses through pre-dertermined points wherein the sensors are deployed. The traversed fluid is then compared with the previously set values for validation.

Bi-Directional Meter Prover

A 4-way valve configuration is used in bi-directional meter provers. It's a customized sphere prover that allows the displacement ball to travel in a consistent path. When the sphere changes its direction, the fluid flow is reversed. The working principle is simple: as liquid or gas enters the stream, it pushes the spherical ball via a proving loop.

Apart from calibrated parts, gas flow is diverted and goes through a number of sensors in place. When the meter prover measures the impulses generated in the operation, the efficiency of gas flow is determined.

To conclude, we can say that the proper use of a meter prover can greatly aid in accurate flow meter calibration. Companies can study readings from a flow meter and understand its accuracy with the help of calibration. Thereby, the significance meter prover systems is at an all-time high.
