4 Qualities Of A Good Kitchen Sink

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment
A stainless steel kitchen sink is what you need in your kitchen as a sink is the most used item in a kitchen. You must look for a good quality kitchen sink as it will last for years to come. It can take the abuse without causing any damage to your kitchen sink. But, if you end up buying a low-quality kitchen sink, you will see that the denting and scratching starts within the first year. You must look for the best quality sink to avoid buying another one very soon.

Stainless steel is an alloy that is made of various metals put together, so it is highly resistant to corrosion and other damage.

Most people rely on their plumbers to make a decision for them, but you must do the shopping on your own. You must list down a few qualities that you are looking for and then buy accordingly. You must ask relevant questions to the manager and read as many catalogues as possible.

 1. Chromium and Nickel

The stainless steels used in the making of kitchen sinks include chromium and nickel. The higher the amounts of these alloys, the harder and stronger your kitchen sink is. The more the content of chromium and nickel is present in your stainless steel, the better it is. Ideally, the chromium to nickel ratio should be between 18:8 and 20:10. This ratio indicates 300-high quality steel and is one of the best qualities while selecting a stainless kitchen sink for your kitchen. The lower quality sinks are of lesser ratio and not as durable as this one. So, the next time you got for kitchen sink shopping, make sure you ask for the chromium and nickel ratio in the steel.

2. Gauge

You may not be aware of a gauge when it comes to stainless steel. But, it refers to the thickness of the sink. The heavier and thicker the gauge, the more it can resist dents and other pressure. The top kitchen sinks have the thickest gauge. The thinner sinks are not very resistant to the force or the pressure. They tend to vibrate more and also make noise when using the sink. Most high-quality sinks have a thickness of 16 to 18 and are quite durable for everyday use. On the other hand, low-quality sinks have a gauge of 22 and are not sustainable for daily use.

3. Should be Heat-Resistant

When you buy Undermount kitchen sinks, you will realize that it can withstand higher temperatures and not corrode or rust like the lower-quality stainless steel sinks. The higher the amount of chromium, the longer it lasts when subjected to higher temperatures. Higher quality sinks can also help resist the scaling at higher temperatures.

4. Check for the Finish

A good finishing doesn’t necessarily mean that the kitchen sink is made of the best quality stainless steel. A shiny, mirror-like finishing indicates that the stainless steel is of lower quality. High-quality steel has a satin finish and helps to keep the scratches away when using it every day.
