4 Everyday Ways to Scratch Your Bumper

by Kevin Smith Author

The bumper of your car is one area most at risk for damage. It is all too common to find dings, dents and scratches on the back bumper of your car. Unfortunately, a lot of this damage isn’t from an accident but rather from everyday occurrences. As you go through life, a bumper protector can guard your car from everyday life and the damage that often comes with it.

Park in a Parking Lot

Any time you leave your car in a parking lot, you leave it vulnerable to damage. Another car has the opportunity to make a quick mistake and bump into your bumper, leaving a dent or paint scratch. But it’s not just other cars you have to worry about. Stray shopping carts can quickly roll into your bumper, leaving a little scratch or a whole lot of damage to your bumper.

Load or Unload Your Trunk

Shuffling things in and out of your truck is another common way bumpers get damaged. While grocery bags are rarely harmful, sports or outdoor equipment is heavy and bulky. It’s really easy to catch your bumper with the side or end of an equipment piece, leaving a few marks behind.

Get Caught in Bad Weather

We often think of ourselves or other drivers as the threat to our bumpers, but the weather can do damage as well. If you live in an area that’s inclined to hail or high winds, you could be impacted. A weather element like hail can leave a sizable dent in your bumper while high winds can carry tree branches or garbage cans right into your vehicles, leaving behind scratches or chips in the paint.

Sit in Traffic

Every time you have to sit in traffic, you’re surrounded by cars that could damage your bumper. A driver behind you that isn’t paying attention can speed up too quickly and end up denting or scratching your bumper. In stop and go traffic, this scenario is all too common as drivers are in a rush to get somewhere and paying less attention than normal.

It turns out that our day to day, typical activities are pretty risky for your bumper. Parking in a lot, loading your trunk, unexpected bad weather, and sitting in traffic are just a few examples of how bumper damage happens. The good news is that a bumper protector can quickly and easily help fight against these everyday damaging situations.
