World No Tobacco Day activity for parents and kids

by Belinha Fernandes Plastic artist

I know that you already have a calendar for this year. But if you don't have any activity planned to celebrate World No Tobacco Day with your kids...this will do! I've been posting several articles about Secondhand smoke on my blog all this month of May. It's something I care about.
These Smoke Monters  belong to Secondhand smoke awareness campaign products I created. But these are free to download. Each month page of this calendar has one cute and colorful Smoke Monster. Your kids will love it.   It will be an easy and fun WORLD NO TOBACO DAY activity for you and your kid! Have fun today and discuss about advantage of an healthy life without smoke with children!

Here's how to do it!
2º Print the file in your office printer using a good size A4 paper.
3º Cut it with X acto knife and ruler using the printed guides.
4º Use a CD jewel box as a stand-flip.
5º Keep all the sheets inside the CD box.
6º Avoid secondhand smoke exposure all year!

Agus, nice to meet you too! Yes, there's plenty of photos of writers and big thinkers surrounded by clouds of smoke, you are right! But maybe their brain got used to smoke and needs it to work. It may unblock their thinking, right, after all nicotine it's a stimulant. But it has a high price.

Hey Joseph! Believe me, before I started reading about this issue I had no idea secondhand smoke was so dangerous. But when I was a child no one was telling anything about smoking. Tehn I learned it was dangerous but still wasn't aware about passive smoke danger.I read that parents smoke near babies. It's so irresponsible. So, every month of May I'll be doing kind of a campaign on my own. You keep trying, don't give up Joseph.

Hey, William, that really made my day! I hope you will make it! My father left cigars behind. The responsible for it was my sister. When my sister was maybe 14 years old she convinced my father not to smoke. She enrolled him on a quit smoking program held at a local institution(local fire department invited some people to do it) and she attended each session with him. At home he had the family support. He did not use any kind of medicine. He was 40 years old by that time and had been smoking all his life. He was successful in quitting tobacco consumption. He never smoked again even in more troubled life periods. Today he’s 70. Although he has some respiratory problems he’s fine.I remember it.It's difficult to quit. My Monsters will be watching, so go for it!

Hi Jasna! I am not a doctor but your mother can give up smoking if she wants it very, very much. There are ways she can do it. I don't know if your mother lives in Japan of Philipines. Certain groups of people meet and help each other discussing their smoke addiction and keeping an eye on each other. It's easy if the family gives encouragement. If your maother know a health professiona maybe at local hospital or Health Center, she can ask for advice. It is difficult to quit tobacco because nicotine is a very powerful drug but it's possible. Tell your mother she will get better health, she will save money, and her house and clothes will smell a lot better with cigarette smoke!

To quit smoking is necessary first of all to this and want to set yourself on quitting smoking, because if you did not want to, no one will be able to make. And to protect themselves from cigarettes, throw away all cigarettes from home, instead of throwing gradually, as recommended by some. I became a smoker in 2001, when I came out of the army, last year only to quit, although there were many attempts to do so. The first 2 weeks of hard, then easier. :)
