How to Make a Video - Getting Easier Every Day!

Video Marketing - a Must

Thanks to a member here at Apsense - Ruediger - for his article on Video and Viral marketing for giving me the idea for this short article.

Everywhere online you see videos now and they are fast becoming compulsory in your marketing, even in email. It's a natural progression, bringing life to our screens and demonstrating the old adage, 'a picture is worth a thousands words'.

I have been marketing online for 2 years so am not really a newbie any more .
But I have taken ages and really resisted learning how to make my own videos. (Heads nodding everywhere).

Heaps of Marketing

After joining Stress Free Salary five months ago, I started to follow the free marketing ideas that come with the system. I did all the required posting into traffic exchanges, safelists, list builders, email marketing, solo and text ads, social marketing and even had a go at pay per click.

I then followed all the 12 training emails doing article marketing and blog and forum posting. However, I baulked at the video marketing, thinking no-one wants to hear my Aussie accent and view my ugly mug and anyway, I did not own expensive video recording programs.

How wrong I was. What really got me rolling was a request from my brother to help in marketing his house for sale. I suggested YouTube might be the best place so he challenged me.

My First Two Videos

So I had a try - I downloaded all the photos of his house from the real estate website that had been marketing his house previously ( he had paid for the photos so they were his) and googled "how to make a video with photos for YouTube".

As you will see, there are many free programs you can use to do this. I then added free music supplied by YouTube, added some text and voila! Here it is.

With that success, I then made another similar one for my nephew in USA trying to sell his house in Sydney. Here it is

Powerpoint Slides Plus

I then looked around for a better way to make my own slides - hmmmm one program I am familiar with from my teaching days is PowerPoint and I had version 2003 already on my computer. Would it still be suitable in 2010?

Well as it was free I went ahead and made a series of slides then found AuthorStream, a free program that will make videos from your slides. I made a short video, recording my voice with my $10 headphones. However, somewhere in all the uploading and downloading I lost the audio.

Back to the free music from YouTube and the timing was right cos I had recorded the slides while reading the text out loud, which gave watchers time to read the slides while listening to my hip hop music LOL Here it is.

Free Software CamStudioIM

Well, that simple start encouraged me so I went back to my email from Stress Free Salary and found the link to the free program CamStudioIM, downloaded it, emailed off for better instructions and made a screen recording using my ppt slides after a couple of tries. I was determined to record my slides with my voice! Here it is.

Well, now I feel I am really getting somewhere! The videos I am making are without links so my team members can use them in their marketing also, particularly the ones whose first language is not English. I am also constantly reading up on new methods and software, especially free ones.

More Free Software Screenr

My latest discovery is Screenr, a great new free software that allows you to make 5 minute videos of your screen instantly! This is by far the simplest one to use and I can also still use my Powerpoint slides. Watch it here. I still haven't worked out why it won't let me upload to YouTube but the embedding and url links work fine.

Well, I've probably gone round and round in a crazy circle but I am sure enjoying it all! If I can help anyone else on their video recording journey, just contact me here on Apsense.

Great information, Sue. If you're marketing online, you really need to be video marketing. Search engines love the videos.

Sue, I don't know why you call your impressive and informative article a short one. It is awesome, diversified, with subheadlines in color, you praise a fellow member, Ruediger, a serious marketer who deserves that kind of recognition 100 %.

There is a paid version of Cam Studio. It costs $30. I bought it, but I haven't found the time to use it. Send me a PM and I will try to find the link where I found it, although a search with the Kooiii SE will help you find it for sure. Let me check on that immediately... Couldn't find it easily, sorry. BTW, I don't know if you are a member of the Warrior Forum, if you are, I have a link for you where an experienced marketer talks about making the most of Cam Studio

Thanks Megan. This video stuff is still unknown territory for me too. I will explore the links in this article later.

Thanks to Sue, no more Jing for me. Screenr has the same 5-minute limit, the image quality is awesome, and no more need to put it on YouTube

@Sue I love the idea of promoting videos on YouTube. Can you please send me the links to download the software you used?
Another question I have is how to get people to watch my videos on YouTube once I have posted them there.

One more tip, with a free copy of Audacity you can add Creative Commons Music in the background and have it fade in and out to enhance the mood without covering your vioce.

Thanks Oldbuddy - I have used Audacity for audio, but not as you suggest. Will need to work that one out.
Paula, just google CamStudioIM - it's the first link. I put my videos on my blog and post them into Facebook, I use them in my article marketing and email ads. I whack 'em everywhere I can LOL
Ye Philippe, Screenr sure is neat and easy and excellent quality. Were you successful in posting it to YouTube?
