I ask myself why some people bothered to join a social network...

by Paula van Dun Retired
I have been around on several networks for some time now and I have visited several profiles and business pages on all of them. I am seeing the same thing here on APSense that I see and on other social networks as well

Many people join for free (nothing wrong with that) and than ......?

I have seen many pages and profiles that are almost empty; a picture, a name and a link to a website. Or blogs with only a few lines "you can make money with program X".

Such incomplete profiles will not get you anywhere, not even when you promote them; people will only click for credits.

I know that when you are a newby it takes some time and try-outs before you figured out how everything works but it is really worthwhile to invest time in learning these skills. Even I could do it although I am not familiar with all terms when I went global because my native language is Dutch.
Help can be found in the APSense Wiki and many features have support groups. You can find those easy on this PinOpps board.

When you are able to create a profile, a revpage or blog that offers relevant information and that is pleasant to look at, you will get more response.

If you upload a profile picture (it is best to have the same picture on all networks you are a member off) and you contribute in a positive way to this community people will start to know you and to appreciate you. You will build valuable connections.

Building connections is the most important thing in building an online business. That is what a SOCIAL network is about. It is not about dumping affiliate links everywhere.

Since I started using social networking about 4 months ago I have gained several good internet friends and connections. I get signups also; mostly through social networking. Much more than from safe lists.

When I started, this was on IMfaceplate it was hard to get any followers. Now 4 months later I get followers every day. Since many people that are here on APSense are also on Faceplate it was easier to get followers here to.

So roll up your sleeves and take the time to explore all possibilities and use them for your advantage.

To your success

Hi Paula, this is a sad fact about all social sites.
Maybe the newbie factor plays a role, but i just think some people just don't want to put the effort towards it.
After all the Gurus online promise them success by doing almost nothing.

Hopefully some of them will wake up, but i can guarantee you, that most don't ever wake up.
These are also the people crying about programs not working for them, they don't make money and so forth.

Good post Paula, keep it up.

Thats because the people who should read it - don't! Why? Because you are offering good advice and NOT something for Free. Dawie's remarks still stand. The so called Gurus still have too much sway, andthere is even more rubbish to sift through before you get to the gems.
