10 Easy Steps To Apply For A New Pan Card Online

A Permanent Account Number or PAN Card is an Income Tax Department issued identity card that keeps a track of all income tax returns filed by an individual or an entity, monetary transactions made over Rs. 50,000 and many other instances. Here’s how to apply for a new PAN card online.

As a resident of India, you require a Permanent Account Number, also known as the PAN Card to file your yearly Income Tax returns. Besides filing IT returns, you also require a PAN card in order to open a simple bank account, sign up for a new credit card, or make payments over Rs. 50,000. This crucial document is given to every Indian who is 18 years of age or older and it serves as a valid proof of identity within the confines of the Indian territory.

Although it is an Indian document, Non-residents of India (NRI) and even foreign nationals who work and pay taxes in India must also apply for PAN card online and successfully procure this documentation before they begin working in the country. In this guide, we will discuss how to apply for a new PAN card online by filling out a simple application form for all Indian residents. 

However, if you are an NRI or a foreign national, the procedures for PAN card application form might vary and you may directly approach the Income Tax Department to find out more details.

The below-listed steps correspond to individual citizens only and not for associations of persons, a body of individuals, company, trust, partnerships or firms, HUF, etc.

1. Gather at least one of the following identity proof documents.

 • Election/Voter ID card
 • Passport
 • Driving License
 • Aadhaar card
 • Photo ID issued by Central, State or a PSU company, among several others.

2.  Anyone valid proof of address that is no more than 3 months old.

 • Electricity bill
 • Phone or internet bill
 • Water bill
 • Gas connection card
 • Bank account statement
 • Credit card statement
 • Aadhaar card
 • Passport, etc.

3. Login to NSDL or UTITSL website to apply for PAN card online and fill out a PAN Card application form.

4. For Indian citizens, select “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A) and proceed further.

5. Insert your personal details then authenticate via Aadhaar card. You can virtually sign and upload them.

6. Thereafter, select your AO category and then choose AO code by state, postal code.

7. Select all the documents submitted as age proof and residence proof, then click Submit.

8. Now, you will be redirected to the payment page where you can use a debit card, credit card, online banking methods to pay a small fee of Rs.120.

9. Authenticate via Aadhaar OTP or submit documents electronically. You can even physically mail in your documents to NSDL.

10. Once your application is processed, your new PAN card will be sent to you via physical mail in 10-15 days.

In case you have chosen to send your documents physically, then you after OTP confirmation, you need to mail all of the documents to this following address:
