A very old story-but with a moral we can use

I'd like to suggest we all take the time to read an old story titled "The Emperor's New Clothes"

I think we all remember this one.  The Emperor commissioned an outfit from a group of scammers.  These scammers would pretend to sew on this beautiful set of clothes when ever the emperor was around.  They convinced him it was the most beautiful outfit in existence.

He decided to wear these beautiful clothes while parading through the streets of his kingdom.  The adults of course not wanting to offend him or thinking that perhaps the clothes were so regal that they couldn't see them, oohed and aahed over the emperor's outfit until finally a small boy who did not know any better stated the obvious.   He simply said, "The emperor is naked".  That one statement made everyone face reality.

All too often, we see the same thing in internet marketing.  Many people are buying "the emperor's clothes".  We see people jumping into these opportunities only to find out that what they thought they were getting was only in their imagination.

We see people jumping on this new e-book or that new marketing plan and when you take away the hype and get down to bare bones, what do you really have?  It's time someone said "The emperor is naked" so people can face reality and stop joining in the fantasy.

Regards,Cheryl

That's odd Cheryl, I was thinking about this story just a couple of hours ago, and
thinking it could be connected to Internet marketing......... :-)

Jean I have seen so many cons and scams this month it's pathetic. And really when you get right down to it you are buying a bunch of nothing. But obviously it still works because people are still getting caught.

I have a theory - which may or may not be popular - depending on who is reading it.

A large part of the so called internet busineses are like the emperors new clothes. So why do relatively intelligent adults continue to fall for them and still continue to find the "holy grail" when most non- internet junkies could tell them that they are wasting their time?

I suspect that a large number of people who set up these "emperor's clothes" programmes do it because they KNOW that it gives people an excuse for staying on the internet 24/7 and calling it work. Running round recruiting a down line for an nearly non existant or useless product may not bring us money - but it keeps us online and as it is called "business" even though we are not making a cent, we can justify it! LOL

Just a thought - but it takes Arthur's study of conology to the next level

I still don't know why someone hasn't spoken up. This whole e-book scam reminds me so much of the emperor's clothes it isn't funny. All these people who are buying "resale" rights to something that doesn't exist except on the internet. Anyone with a printer can download it and print it. But you can only "sell" it on the net. If you reproduce it in hardcopy for anything other than personal use, copyrighting laws kick in. They have no part in the intellectual rights which is where the royalties come from, so they really don't "own" anything. Except a link designed to lure some other sucker into making the same exact mistake you just made.

hang on a minute Cheryl, It is not more legal to copy on the internet than it is on paper. It is just a question of not being caught.

There is a serious problems with people selling "resale rights" for things that they do not have the rights to themselves

Enforecement of copyright law on the internet is still in its infancy , but the laws exist even if people arent aware of them

Jeunelle did a blog not so long back on the subject and wikipedia also has a lot of details about it too that are easily accessible

here's one - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_Copyright_Infringement_Liability_Limitation_Act

You're right it is not any more legal, however the "resale" Rights you purchase allow you to sell the book online. So when the online demand has been satisfied by every Tom Dock and Harry who has an interest in the book buying it, you are left with no market.

Your basic Barnes and Noble also have resale rights, However the bookstore buys the volume of books outright, at which time they have resale rights. They have a stock of books that they can sell however they see fit. If they run low they have go back to the publisher/manufacturer and resupply. If the book tanks then they can always out it on sale or sell the lot to a discount book store. They have an actual product on hand on no restrictions on how they market the product.

Normally the author has copyrighted the material since there is no publisher, the author is raking in the money for allowing others to sell resale rights on his book on the internet. I had one come to me and there it was in the fine print. You were allowed to sell resale rights to the book in an electronic medium only. You are not selling a book, but the right to sell the right to sell the book. The intellectual property rights remained with the author. You would get the book "free" when you bought the rights.

Wow I forgot this old one was here! And funny that the story applies to what is floating around today although we have progressed from selling the right to sell the right to sell the right to an e-book. These scams floating today still are nothing more than the Emperor's New Clothes.

Yes they do. And the sad part is that they aren't new. The same ones pop up again and again with a differnt name and everyone falls over themselves to join. Never mind it is the exact same thing that got shut down las month, last year etc.

Yes and what amazes me is how otherwise intelligent adults will argue, justify and flat out attack anyone who dares to point out the fact that their scam is a scam. Like the adults in the kingdom in the story I guess they are too ashamed or bull headed to admit that they have been duped.
