Putting my dishes away this morning I got a SHOCK! I notices my favorite big spoon that I have had for years looked "odd". After careful examination I realized it was CRACKED!

I am so bummed. I have had that spoon for 37 years. I know when I got it. I had just opened my gift shop at that time and that was one of the lines that I carried, Copco. This spoon was bright yellow, it was a big slotted long handled serving spoon. I used it for everything. I can safely say I used it 6 out of 7 days a week for all these years, no wonder it finally cracked.

My spoon will be missed. It about broke my heart but I did pitch it for fear of food contamination getting in the crack. I have many spoons, but none like that one. I am a kitchen gadget junkie. I have every gadget imaginable. Some I have never used and some I don't recall what they are. I have always been one for pitching boxes, packaging and the first to go is usually directions.

I have several wire whisks too but none like that one that I bought almost at the same time as my spoon. I paid $15.00 buck for it at that time....which I am certain was a whole lot on money at that time for a kitchen tool... but it looks exactly like it did all those years ago. . You get what you pay for. I can't imagine someone not having a whisk. I helped my neighbor put on a breakfast years go for her kids and asked where to find the whisk.... she said what is that? I went home and got mine and bought her one for Christmas. Not sure she uses it as I do but I can not imagine a kitchen being complete without a wire whisk.

When I got my first apartment almost 40 years ago I bought a set of Revere Ware Cookware. To this day I still use those pots, I don't think they will ever wear out. They were made to last.

I am a great junk store shopper. I must have changed dishes at least 10 times over the years. I have complete sets that I have bought at the junk store just waiting to replace the ones I am now using. I am sure that won't be any time soon. I have been using the set I have now for the past 10 years, at least. I collected a complete set for 20. Every type bowl, dish, plate that was available. (We live by Libby Glass, and they use to distribute all that kind of stuff) These dishes are restaurant quality, Syracuse China. Not even rough and tuff as well as clunky me can break them very easily.

I have been using the same set of silver ware for those 39 years too, Oneida... once again you get what you pay for. I have another set waiting in a box ready to replace them but that don't look like it will happen anytime soon either. I still just love the pattern I bought all those years ago.

Big bowls are another story. I have broken or chipped beyond use at least 100 of those over the years.

I am so bummed about my big yellow 'cracked" slotted spoon. I think I will get it out of the trash and give it a proper burial. On second thought I think I will take it to the garage and find a new use for.

May it live forever!
