As Mary said depends on the user. There are many variables to take into consideration >
1. Reliable hardware parts > i.e Made in Japan, US, Holland, Germany etc
2. What kind of system configuration you use> RAM, HD (Seagate, Quantum 7200 rpm, 250GB+), Video Memory, Graphic Card, Lan etc ... Motherboard type
3. What system do use Windows, Linux etc ...
4. How often do you perform system maintenance
5. System load > How many processes and services are running at start-up ...

It depends on the user. I am sure everyone have their likes and dislikes because they may like a certain brand over any other. If one brand works for me, it may not be a good fit for someone else. I have used a lot of brands and the brand I am currently using is my favorite.

The only three brands I've used in terms of laptops, are HP, Toshiba and Dell and I can categorically tell you that the phrase "Dell Hell" is a very apropos phrase, which, by the way, is also the title of blog post from a very prominent blogger in this category. The best laptop brand is Apple laptop.
