LOL... Yep, you're a sucker Warren. Glad to see you still floating around the 'net and doing well for yourself.

Maybe I'm a sucker, but it sounds to me like he is doing you a favor by letting you know how he got there.

And Philippe, I would activate Akismet. The API key can be used on any other sites you might have. I use Akismet and usually one other spam blocking plug in....I've been using WP-Spam Free but it's not being supported any more so I'll use something different on future sites.

You should never ever use auto approve comments as a blogger. Use a spam filter and approve them additional yourself. There are auto-comment bots out there and you don't want to have there spam on your blog.

I always set "admin approves the 1st comment"

These comments probably are coming from posts, sent on auto-pilot for the only reason to get backlinks :)
When you have selected on your blog: "admin has to approve the comment" you will see the email address, website and IP address of the person who sent the comment.
As long as the website looks in a way reasonable (no porn etc.) I approve them....
A part from the backlink, Google also get a signal that your blog is live!! Not too bad in case you aren't a heavy writer on it.

Exactly, Gnana, it's sad that too many people do that

When I had a blog, I got similar comments like "I found your website via yahoo answers".
Nothing but a deceptive way to build backlinks.

You're looking at the back end and I'm talking about what will show on the front end. If they entered a url, it will link to their name on the front end of your site.
