From Utah to the Big Apple, search engine optimization is a very important component to a company’s digital success. When it comes to SEO, there are many important elements a company’s content must include. Sometimes, location can be a very important element to mention in content for local or regional clients.

Most search engines already know where people are geographically, so when a user searches for something, the first few results that come up are generally local to the user. For example, if someone in Salt Lake City types in a phrase such as “best pizza restaurant,” pizza restaurants local to Utah will generally be the first to appear. Although this helpful to search engine optimization experts and content creators, there are still other strategies that can boost localized content’s relevance in a search.

Keywords

When writing content for local clients, it is very important for SEO writers to include geographically specific keywords throughout pieces. Typically, these geographical keywords should make up approximately 1-2 percent of the content. This allows for the piece to be relevant while still sounding natural and not too forced.

Links

Including links to the local client’s website is extremely important and beneficial. This gives readers a direct connection to the client’s site and can be very helpful to those searching for a local product or service.

Write For the Reader

The people reading your content are potential consumers for the client, and as such, knowing your readers is absolutely necessary in achieving local SEO success. Content should be written with the reader in mind at all times. For example, some pieces written for a conservative audience in Utah would probably be written differently than articles targeting more liberal states. Knowing the audience is crucial.

Like almost anything in this world, there is almost always room for improvement, even if you think you’re the best of the best. It’s important to get feedback from local readers and clients. Following these tips can put you on the road to local SEO success!
