Your office - your spare home
Space is one of the first things you should think of when starting a small business. Everyone who wants to run a private business has to think thoroughly of space that he or she would like to turn into a cozy and pleasant office. According to some research, space organization increases work productivity up to 20%. So if you are an ambitious business starter or an experienced one who yearns for a change, there are some general aspects that you should cover in order to make your office look like a worker-friendly and profitable place.
Among the first things you should think of are the temperature twins: heating and cooling of the office. When it is cold outside, your office will be cold as well, while scorching temperatures outside will cause you and your workers sweat and the productivity will be significantly decreased (you might have already concluded that yourself). To make the office tepid and pleasantly warm, it would be a good idea to install an air-conditioner with an inverter. That way you will be able to keep the temperature at the same level (it is recommendable to keep it at 20-21 degrees Celsius (approximately 70 F), no matter what weather unconditions govern outside your office. When installing air-conditioners, however, pay attention to their positions and where the workers’ desks are, so that they do not blow the air directly to you or your workers.
Now that you have regulated the working temperature, you should take care of the floor and the walls. The floor is quite an important part of your office, because the cleanness of your office will largely depend on the surface you tread on. So, forget about carpets and rugs. The perfect flooring is lamination, or floating wooden tiles. They is priced quite reasonably and they are cleaned very easily.
When it comes to walls, it depends whether your office is actually yours or you are renting it. If it is yours, wallpapers might seem just as the right choice. You can choose among dozens of patterns and, in addition, you do not have to paint your walls every year. On the other hand, if you do not have an office of your own, but you are renting it, the best thing is to paint the walls, so that you do not complicate your business if you decide to rent another space.
The walls should, as well, be properly embellished with paintings. If you are not actually a culture vulture, you can hire an office decorator so that your office design is done professionally . However, their services can be quite expensive, so maybe the best way is to ask your employees what types of paintings they would like on the walls. It will make the work environment more adapted to workers. Nevertheless, if you are the only worker in the office and the owner of the business, you can put whatever you want on the walls.
Since we live in a 1984-like screen-dominated society, it would be useful to put a TV-screen into your office. You can make it play useful videos or tutorials for your workers or even play TV-shows or music videos when your workers are on break. What is even better, you can offer your employees that they suggest videos they would like to watch when they are on break, so that they feel they contribute to the ambience in the company.
