So what next? After all, interviews are occasions that befall all of us at any one given time. What exactly should you wear in a job interview?

As a matter of fact, many people (upon receiving an interview invitation) investigate as many facts as possible about the prospective company while forgetting to research on the dress code. It is for this reason that majority of candidates seeking a position in a company end up failing despite their intelligent answers at the questions shot at them.

But there’s one effective way of knowing what type of clothing is required. It doesn’t cost you a dime to inquire from the person who is inviting you about the type of clothing that’s worn in their office. You could even visit the company to observe their official attire and culture prior to this big day. Roz Usheroff, the communication and image specialist at Usheroff Institute recalls visiting her prospective employer’s office and secretly observing the dress code prior to her interview date.

Usheroff recommends dressing a notch high after knowing the type of dress code and culture of a particular company. According to her, this makes a candidate look polished and well groomed. However, she warns about over-doing it.

Your clothing

Since time immemorial, professionals like bankers and lawyers have been known to wear corporate uniforms. If your background investigation turns out that the company embraces official wear, then a nice suit is the best way to go. Useroff says that a suit jacket gives candidates a great presence. The personality of women often come across as strong when they are in suits.

If you are going for a corporate interview, you are better off with a good quality solid color suit such as midnight blue. This type of suit offers a good choice when it comes to ideal corporate wear selection.

What if it’s a casual company?

Not all companies emphasize on corporate wear though. But don’t take chances by assuming that you could show up in jeans, khakis or T-shirts. You want to achieve a presence, and you can only attain it by wearing official attire. For the ladies, you can try an A-line or a straight skirt, matched with a great top. You could also pair your black pantsuit with a casual top.

Your nails

As far as your corporate uniform is concerned, your nails form the most vital part of your dress code. The long, fake finger nails adorned with sparkles and conspicuous colors are ideal for parties, but as for the recruiters, they get a different message altogether. As a matter of fact, you can’t have daggers for finger nails, you aren’t going for some sort of military battle. So keeping them short, pale and simple is ideal when preparing for a job interview.

That said, your ''how to dress for a job interview’' queries have been answered. Now wait until an opportunity shows up and put what you’ve leaned into action.
