Will Eating Low Fat Foods Help My Workout?

by Neighborhood Trainers Finding a trainer is a personal choice

This is a great question for the martial artist and in fact for any sports person. Diet is as essential to our ability to perform as practice, focus and dedication are. Diet is what fuels the body and without calories to burn, any training would soon come to a dead stop.

To be a martial artist of any sort you need to be able to combine strength, balance and coordination required by the techniques. Strikes and kicks require muscles which can literally explode into action almost without warning. Your diet needs to fund that activity.

Personal trainers in New York will be very clear; you need to have a balanced diet which includes all of the food groups.

Good Proteins

Protein builds muscle which is essential for all techniques. You must include protein in your diet. Lack of protein can lead to anemia which saps your strength.

Carbs

Carbs give you energy and a martial arts personal trainer in New York will prepare you to take in about 40% of your calories in carbs. You will then have the energy to fight.

Fats

Fats prevent muscle fatigue and help in the comeback after a workout. You may be surprised to know that 15% of your intake should be coming from fat. The key is to find good fats; nuts, oily and fatty fish like salmon and tuna are also great sources of good fat.

Low-Fat Foods

Many foods are marketed as being low fat but you need to be aware of what happened to make them low fat. Think about fat-free yogurt for example. Yogurt is made from milk which naturally has a fat percentage of 3.5%.

To get rid of the fat something has to be done, and this is where the problems come from. Often to reduce the fat, sugar will be added instead. 3.5% fat is better than more sugar.

What should you eat?

As much as you can, your diet should be as close to unprocessed as possible. The fewer ingredients the better, and if you can’t say the ingredients probably better to leave them on the shelf.

You should include the brown versions of things like bread and rice. Include things like quinoa, lentils, and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Stay away from processed foods as much as you can, and if you have to east fast-food, limit yourself to once every blue moon and even then hold out for the better sort.
