Will a GPS tracker with a 2G GSM module will work with an M2M SIM card that supports 2G?

When the topic is about asset security generally a name stuck in our mind and that is GPS tracker. Whether it is about the vehicle or other asset or our loved one GPS tracker is the most convenient device. We all know that the GPS tracker device has a GSM module.

Various network providers support 2G, 3G and also 4G networks and most of the devices like high definition mobile,3D TV, gaming services need the 4G network to run. But here GPS tracker device is the only device that supports the 2G network. A GPS tracker with a 2G network does not provide bad tracking. This is the time when most of the cell phones are running 4G speed, GPS trackers the M2M application is running on 2G. Apart from GPS tracker smart meters and credit card terminals are the example of some devices still works with 2G network.

Now if the GPS tracker device only supports the 2G GSM module then it will work only on the 2G network. The data package require for a GPS device is average 150bytes and without the high bandwidth, the GPS tracker device can connect with the server and transmit data so 99% GPS tracker device works on 2G SIM card.

Before answering a GPS tracker with a 2g GSM module that will work with an M2M SIM card that supports 2G or not we should know what the M2M SIM is and the advantages we get from it while using in GPS tracker.

M2M SIM is a signature of IoT, the network of the internet-connected device which makes our process more accurate and efficient. M2M is a process in which two things (device) connected with the internet transmits data between them.

The best advantage of it is a multi-network SIM you can switch in any network without any problem. M2M SIM sends more accurate data so that you can access your asset remotely.

The network providers bring also M2M SIM and the TRAI stated that only M2M SIM can be used in GPS tracker devices. In India, Airtel, Vodafone and Jio network providers provide M2M SIM. But the Jio M2M SIM is 4G SIM so if your GPS device supports 2G module then no 4G network works with it. But the M2M SIM which is provided by Airtel and Vodafone, if you recharge with a 2G plan it provides smooth tracking.
