Digha or “Brighton of the East” is a famous travel destination. Ask a Kolkata resident about the most famous places to visit in West Bengal, Digha is more likely to be in the first five. Digha is the most popular beach of West Bengal. It is located 187km south west of Kolkata. Previously, during Warren Hasting’s time, Digha was known as Beerkul. Over the years and time, the popularity of this spot has gradually skyrocketed, especially among many Kolkata residents who have itching feet but not a deep pocket.

Mandarmani, previously named as Mandarboni and Madar Mani, has 13km long beach which is the longest motorable beach in India.

Road journey is the best if you are a nature lover. You will get to see wonderful sights of the nature on your way to Mandarmani. Contai is the nearest railway station and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is the nearest airport. Through a highway at Howrah, Mandarmani is connected to Kolkata.

Junput

Next comes Junput which is 40km from Digha and 177km from Kolkata. This place has numerous number of beaches and offers a spectacular view of casuarina trees. The State Government Fisheries Department is running a brackish water fish cultivation and research. It is a wonderful offbeat destination and ideal for those who want to keep themselves away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Tajpur

There are many hidden beaches in India and Tajpur, located in Digha is one of them. Tajpur lies in the Purba Medinipur District of South Bengal and is just 16km before Digha. It is located between Shankarpur and Mandarmani and is under Contai sub division. Tajpur is home to numerous red crabs and has 1400 acres of land dedicated to Pisciculture.
