4 Off-Beat Spots in Darjeeling

by Sanjay Nandy Digital Marketing Manager

Many of us have been to Darjeeling at least once. The Tiger Hill, Monastery, Mall, Ghoom Railway Station – we have seen them all. Though there is no denying that they are irresistible attractions for every Darjeeling-bound traveller, think about a few off-beat spots the next time you are giving visit this bejewelled “queen of the hills”. We have shortlisted 4such places for your Darjeeling visit the next time.

Tinchuley: Tinchuley is a beauty to behold! This place is getting attention and admiration for its eco-friendly ambience. Before the place becomes another hotbed of irresponsible revelry, experience pin-drops-silence amidst rolling waves of tea gardens. The orange orchard is another beautiful sight at the backdrop of towering, snow-cuddled Mt. Kanchenjunga.

This tiny village has many things in store to keep the tourists hooked away from urban life forever. A lazy stroll in the lap of nature with cool breezes wafting the fragrance from the tea garden and orange orchard may feel like a dream walk in heaven. Chirping of birds greeting a new morning, Teesta gargling through the forest ooze a spiritual vibe. Feel the eternal bonding with Mother Nature and absorb nature’s blessings with all your touchpoints.

Lepchajagat: This small village is 19 km away from Darjeeling. Nestled at the summit of 6959 ft, the hamlet is beyond the reach of urban cacophony. Avoid causing any trouble to the peaceful natives while enjoying your vacation here.

Take a deep breath while walking along the wild forest, feast your eyes on silver-glitz Kanchenjunga and feel the surreal silence all over. The forest is dense with towering trees such as oaks, pines and full-bloom rhododendrons. It now belongs to a reserved forest area. Lepchajagat is all about nature that is pristine and peaceful. Give it a visit; you will come back with an oasis of memories permanently etched in your mind.

Rimbik Village: When it comes to Darjeeling, nature has always bestowed its blessing on this hilly terrain. Ribik offers a piece of the picturesque landscape that Darjeeling is loved for. This small town is seated in the Singalila National Park.

It is a paradise for trekkers who can make their way to Signalila National Park and Sandakphu from here. In recent years, this place has become a favourite with off-beat travellers who were willing to explore the region. However, this place is not thick with tourists; you can spot only a few tourists. The village is a must-go for adventure aficionados

Sandakphu Peak: Sandakphu peak, located near the Indo-Nepal border, is the highest peak in West Bengal. Wherever your eyes go, nature will simply take your breath away. The best view that you can capture and click from Sandakphu is that of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Make your way to the peak either by trekking or by car. The 51-km long way up the hill from Manebanjan is full of nature’s unblemished touches on all hands.

Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu – the snow-clad arc created by the four highest peaks are clearly visible from the summit of Sandakphu. It is one of the most popular and best treks in Eastern India. Don’t give it a miss during your Darjeeling visit.
