Why International Calling Cards are Growing in Popularity

by James Richard article writing

Many of us today regularly travel to countries across the globe, either for business or on vacations with our friends and family members in tow. We might also have relatives who are settled abroad. In these situations, staying connected with friends back home or the family members, who have been posted in a new city as part of a company initiative, can be a tad bit difficult.

However, there is one way we can avoid the steep roaming rates of international calls and still stay connected with the ones we love. We can use international calling cards and keep our phone bills within control. These cards make it possible for us to talk to our contacts whenever we feel like getting in touch; we no longer have to stay without hearing the voices of our loved ones for extended periods of time.

International calling cards are quite similar to the telephone recharge vouchers we are more accustomed to. These cards are however different in terms of their schemes and validity. These cards are prepaid; you can purchase them in your home country or a foreign one. You can use the international calling coupons when you are traveling abroad or make calls to foreign countries from where you stay.

These cards are being created by third party manufacturers and also telecommunication companies. These cards are most commonly available as part of pay as you go schemes. Users can purchase the cards upfront without having to worry about bills and monthly fees and rentals. In appearance, the calling cards are quite similar to credit cards. Each comes with its own value and also bears a serial number that is quite unique.

The way to activate the calling cards is simple enough. All you have to do is register the serial numbers with its carrier. Thereafter, the telephone minutes are credited to the phone; the exact amount would depend on the exact value of the card. Users can continue using the cards till their telephone minutes are exhausted. After that, the users would have to purchase and activate new calling coupons to make calls again. Users are generally informed about the number of telephone minutes they have after they have dialled the numbers they wish to connect with.

There are myriad options in international calling cards. Some of these cards are cheaper upfront. Others offer more lucrative call rates and schemes. The number of minutes on specific calling cards would depend on the place where you are calling from, the place where you are calling to, and the type of phone you are making the call from. Some of the calling cards are valid for a certain pre-specified time period from the date of activation. One can also procure one way and two way calling cards, where users can make calls or make as well as receive calls respectively.
