Two decades ago, if you would tell someone that people would no longer need to visit stores to buy goods, they would be mocked. But then who would have known the technology would change our lives so much. A Cricket Store owner would not have thought that their customer would buy Cricket Bats from their Online Cricket Store without any need of visiting the physical cricket shop.

There would hardly be any industry or business today that has been left untouched by this paradigm shift caused by disruptive digital marketing.

1.     The internet is where people spend time and money

In 2014, the average internet user had 3 social media accounts. In 2019, that increased to 7. It’s not restricted to millennials or Gen Z – 97% of US adults over the age of 65 reported using social media. An overwhelming majority of that percentage are using it every day.

22% of Earth’s population is on Facebook. 76% of Facebook’s users are on the site every day while 51% of Instagram users are online daily.

Social Media is where people are. But do people buy things there? Yes, they do.

One of the top 10 reasons people say they’re on social media is to buy products advertised to them. They spend 37% of their time on social media channels interacting with branded content.

57% of Millennials say that social media has helped deliver relevant ads while 48% of people said their last purchase was spurred by a Facebook ad.

When you realize how to harness the power of social media, your business begins winning. Of course, social media marketing is a slice of digital marketing but it’s a crucial slice.

2.     It is available to all businesses

It is not uncommon for a huge company to sweep into town and wipe out hundreds of stores operating in the same industry. Amazon is a very good online example of this.

But digital marketing does not differentiate in such a manner. Whether it’s a brick and mortar store or an e-commerce firm, digital marketing can help a business rank in a desirable position – as long as the business executes a good digital marketing plan. A small business can compete with a smaller budget and if managed effectively, give proper control over expenditure. With precise control and in-depth information at hand, you can make smarter decisions.
