The solar industry is absolutely shining. Every year, more people make the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy. One element of renewable energy that should be given some thought by investors is the type of solar panel that is to be installed. 

Monocrystalline Silicon Solar Cells 

The first type of solar panel available for installation is a monocrystalline silicon solar cell. This cell contains high-purity silicon ingots. Monocrystalline silicon cells are space efficient and can last up to about 25 years. According to Energy Informative, “The efficiency rates of monocrystalline solar panels are typically 15-20 percent.” 

Polycrystalline Silicon Solar Cells

Polycrystalline silicon solar cells are the next type of solar panel available for installation. These cells are composed of square-shaped sections of melted silicon. These differ from monocrystalline cells that are composed of many cylindrical shapes. Polycrystalline cells often have a blue-spotted look to them. They appear this way because these cells are not made of high purity silicon like monocrystalline cells are. These cells are less expensive than monocrystalline cells. However, polycrystalline silicon solar cells are reported to be less efficient than monocrystalline silicon solar cells. 

String Ribbon Solar Cells 

The third type of solar cell is the string ribbon solar cell. These cells are made up of polycrystalline silicon. According to Energy Informative, these cells are made when, “Temperature-resistant wires are pulled through molten silicon, which results in very thin silicon ribbons.”

With the many options and advantages there are with these different types of solar cells, this can make the installation process stressful. To ease the stress of the situation, financially, solar power loans are available to thousands of potential renewable energy investors across the nation.
