Where to Get Graphic Design Inspiration
“Design is thinking made visual” quoted the legendary graphic designer and filmmaker Saul Bass. Come to think of it, isn’t that right? A great design tempts to read the most bizarre content, both online and offline. The quirky font, the abstract design, a dash of colour and a few twisted lines develops into something outstanding and if the content is meaningful, then a masterpiece is created! But then what inspires the magic workers, the designers? This is exactly what I am going to talk about. The design inspirations! The Pandora box of innovative ideas and ‘out of the box’ notions.Yes, the inspirers need inspiration and what we will discuss here are the sites that help them unblock their sometimes deadlocked minds and rejuvenate their creative instincts. Here we will talk about the top five websites that inspire them, encourage them and help them create something extraordinary. Now let’s get going with our first mode of encouragement:
1. Deviant Art: The site talks about some of the most amazing artworks and designs by budding designers and creators. The categories have some different and amazing options apart from the regular ones. Apart from the usual photography, fashion and few more categories, it has ‘fan art’ section that includes fictional character based designs. The creators input their imaginations and deliver the same through their artwork. The ‘Flash’ category displays the flash animations submitted by various artists that cover everything from concept based videos to product based to video games animations. The animations, like flash animations, are vector based 2D designs that enable clean graphic appearance. The ‘artisan crafts’ is a unique category that gives ideas of print design for textile printing, give away, jewel designs and other such range of products.

2. Freepik: It is a search engine that helps locate and extract the latest designs for vectors, icons, templates, illustrations and PSD files. It is a free site that has its own ‘freepik robots’ that search and update the latest amendments in the world of design for you and saves you from running and scrolling through multiple pages for a single design. Isn’t that just awesome! Apart from the inputs by various artists, the site also has a gifted set of designers that provide with many designs that they create on their own for the site. This feature is updated on a regular basis.

3. Behance: It is the ‘go to’ website for a designer. It is compact in its look and feel which eases navigation and exhibits some ‘state-of-the-art’ designs. The description is a hard-hitting, professional to the core look which encapsulates their aim which is ‘to empower the creative world and make ideas happen’. It also highlights the projects viewed and the projects appreciated in the past 30 days which marks the credibility of the website. The most appreciated projects are displayed on the homepage and are segregated categorically. The site is a ‘know it all’ of graphic design inspirations and is rapt with graphical reforms.

4. Awwwards: Its is one of the most interesting website for graphic design inspiration that classifies different projects and websites in ‘awards’ like ‘sites of the day’, ‘sites of the month’, ‘honourable mentions’ and ‘winners lists’. It has projects from some remarkable sites like the legworkstudio, B-Reel, Google Creative Lab, Firstborn and some fascinating websites like these. The titles are designated on the basis of ‘40% design, 30% UX/UI, 20% creativity and 10% content’ and the criteria is decided by a group of esteemed jury that are placed in different parts of world. Yes it seems weird at first but then this is how the site works and this vouches for the uniqueness of the websites.

The one thing that stands common with all these inspirations is the desire to create and the need to promote the same. For me, creativity is the crux of innovation, and I believe that the greatest inventions are born of the simplest ideas. These websites are an outlet to the creative window of our minds and the thoughts displayed targets the sub conscience of the viewers’ mind which creates an impression. In a nutshell, in this ever changing world, to mark your presence you have to be different and for a designer, exclusivity is a must. So whenever you feel stuck in a pool of thoughts, you know where to log on!
