From 1st July 2017, Indian Government has levied a new Indirect Tax regime which is called GST (Goods and Services Tax). Except in some situation, every business dealing in Products need to take legally GST Registration if crosses turnover to Rs. 40 Lacs in Year, however in case of Service Provider limit of turnover is Rs. 20 Lacs. Once you have registered under this regime, you will receive a unique 15 digits PAN based GSTIN (Goods and Service Tax Identification Number).. If a business operates from more than one state, then a separate GST registration is required for each state. For instance, If a vendor sells in Karnataka and Maharashtra and store the goods at each State he has to apply for separate GST registration in Karnataka and Maharashtra respectively. A business with multiple business verticals in a state may obtain a separate registration for each business vertical.

Further for sake lesser compliance burden Govt has given option to Small businesses having an annual turnover less than Rs. 1.5 crore to opt for Composition scheme. Composition dealers will pay nominal tax rates based on the type of business. Composition scheme of registration can also be by normal registered business in and between Year after opting such option in GST Website.
