Take steps to ensure your car’s paint finish lasts longer. If you don't want your car to be marred with marks and scratches just days after you drive it home, apply a layer of film protection. Learn to choose which film offers the level of protection you want and can afford. Here are a few questions you should ask.

Is the Quality Excellent?

When you look for paint protection film, consider quality options. Does it provide an effective barrier against scratches from dirt, rocks, flying debris, and other road hazards? What about oil and UV protection? A protection film of excellent quality shouldn't have any problems making any of those happen. For top-tier protection, you can expect PPF that is about six mils thick. Poor quality options are thinner.

Do They Have Qualifications?

When you look for a car shop to carry out the task, learn more about their qualifications and credentials. Did the staff receive specialized paint protection film training? Do they have the experience and tools to ensure that the process moves forward without any problems? How long has it been since the shop started offering the service?

Are Their Clients Happy?

Consider the feedback from other clients. Read reviews and note details that can help you get a sense of the shop’s work quality. Are the customers happy with the quality of service? Is the paint protection film durable? Do they have a sample or portfolio of how the film will work? Ask and find out.

Is the Paint Transparent Enough?

The aim of a paint protection film is to keep the cover looking as good as new. But that doesn’t mean including dirt or dust. If you find dirt, dust, and more in the film, they did a poor job of applying the paint protection film. Also, the transparency should be crystal clear. If you find any signs that your car’s paint was distorted, covered up, or changed by the film, that’s another indication that they botched up the job. If you pay a visit to the shop and see these signs in the cars they’re working on, spare yourself the frustration, and walk away.

What Glue Do They Use?

The PPF should remain transparent for years. If the car shop tells you the PPF will turn yellow a few years later, that’s likely because of the adhesive they use. That’s how it was with previous generations of PPF. You may be better off choosing a car shop that has already moved on to using adhesives that won’t prematurely discolor after years of use.

How Long Will the Film Last?

Many films have warranties. Consider that when you look for industry-leading options for PPF. However, several factors also impact the lifespan of clear bras. Was appropriate care taken during the installation? Did pros undertake the work? When experts apply protection film, it can last beyond ten years with proper maintenance. Given the cost of PPF and the fact that you need to have the film re-applied every few years, taking PPF training can help. If you want to learn more about installing the clear bra, find an auto detailing school to get you started.
