What Type of Books Should Teenagers Read?
by Bookswagons Books BookswagonsAs a teenager, you are at a stage where you are much
more receptive than adults and have a better understanding of a lot of things
as compared to children. Hence, it is in your adolescence that you have the
opportunity to widen your horizons and to soak in as much information and
knowledge as you can. And what better way to do it through books? With so many
authors and writers out there, you would find a plethora of options in terms of
the books you could read; fiction books non-fiction,
autobiographical, poetry books, thrillers, romance novels, etc. There is,
without a doubt, something for all of you to read! So, here are some types of books
you must read, as a teenager:
Poetry books: If you love poems, there are so many books available
for you. Poetry is a great way to encourage creative and deductive thinking and
also serves as a means for us to understand and appreciate the world. Poems are
quite often, not the most direct and require you to find the meaning in the
depths of all those stanzas. Poetry is no less than any other art form and
deserves to be appreciated. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur, Sylvia Plath; The
Collected Poems and many more are great options to read.
Non-Fiction: The non-fiction category includes different kinds
of books which are as follows (and much more):
Biographies or autobiographies: If you have a role model or someone you admire, maybe consider
reading their biography/ autobiography, if they have one. Reading about idols
or successful people could give you some sort of an idea or direction in life,
whether in general or in a particular field. Maybe you enjoy a sport, say
tennis. Try reading Andre Agassi’s autobiography, it’s quite interesting.
Self-Help books: Perhaps you need help in some aspect of your life. Perhaps you
need a few tips in figuring out something. In that case, self-help books are a good
option. While people around you can give useful advice, sometimes reading
something like 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a great option if you are
looking to make slight changes in your life.
Diaries and memoirs: Books like The Diary of Anne Frank are a testament to a particular a period in history and could provide an insight into the lives of common people.
Fiction books: If you wish to spend time away from reality and want to get lost
in an imaginary (yet somewhat possible) world, fiction is the right category
for you:
Sci-fi: Science fiction books like The Martian, Children of Time are
quite interesting for all those of you who love science and the idea of
something like time travel or going into space and other technological
developments.
Classics: If you enjoy hardcore literature, classics like To Kill A
Mockingbird, Frankenstein, etc. would surely make for delightful reads.
Romance novels: If you are a romantic at heart and dream about your happily ever
after, you would definitely love to read romance novels, some well known ones
being The Notebook, Pride and Prejudice, and Jane Eyre.
Horror and thriller: If you enjoy a mystery or love trying to rack your brains in
order to figure out a crime, or, love a good spook, this is the perfect genre
to keep you at the edge of your seats. Books like IT, Gone Girl, The Innocent
Man are suggested reads.
Whether
you just want something to pass your time or want to increase your knowledge
about a particular issue, nothing can beat books, not even the internet. Make
it habits to read every single day, even if it’s just for 30 minutes, to keep
your minds active.
