The title character, Amy Elliott Dunne, worked as a writer in New York. She met Nick Dunne at a party, and they started dating. After two years of being together, they decide to get married, but misfortune struck when they lose and jobs as well as the capability to afford a life in New York. As a result, she developed hatred towards her husband. Then one day, all of a sudden, Amy disappeared, and Nick became the obvious suspect. The plot witnesses a twist when it is found that Amy is alive and had framed Nick for her death with the help of her ex-boyfriend Desi Collins. The theme is based on dishonesty and the problems faced by couples in their marriage. However, multiple twists and turns in the book are unpredictable and they keep a sense of suspense alive until the very end.



Love Story - Erich Segal

Erich Segal is famously known for his novels and stories. He has the ability to develop the characters in such a way that they stay with the reader even after finishing the book. Out of the many books by Erich Segal, the love story is the most acclaimed romance novel which was released in the year 1970. The book has been translated into more than twenty different languages and remained on the number one spot for forty-one weeks straight in the New York Times Best Seller series! What makes this book a must-read is the development of the story which features several tones such as romance and humour yet ending with a tragedy. The central characters, Oliver Barret and Jennifer Cavilleri, belong to polar opposite backgrounds and the story progresses with how they develop immense love for each other. They stated their intention to get married, which was against the wish of their parents. As a result, they moved to New York City, where they find out that Jennifer suffers from blood cancer. The story ends with her death yet; it reunites the father and son duo. The book portrays the power of love and that is the reason for its commercial success.

 

 

The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath

If you are looking for books by Sylvia Plath, you might find only one novel! This one is titled 'The Bell Jar' and is the only novel which was first published by her using a pen name called 'Victoria Lucas', in the year 1963. The book can be considered as a partial autobiography. However, the author decided to change the names of people and a few places in order to maintain privacy. Plath was diagnosed with clinical depression and that is what inspired the book as the central character of Esther Greenwood also struggled with parallel mental health issues. The plot goes in a manner where Esther takes up an internship for the summer at a famous magazine in New York City. She witnesses her father's death and feels an inability to fulfil her roles. That is why she gives into depression and tries to kill herself. The book beautifully highlights the social norms and patriarchy which exist till date. It also throws light on taking care of one's mental health and wellbeing.
