What to Do While Waiting for AC Repair

by Kevin Smith Author

When the weather gets hotter, it's important to have a working AC unit. If your air conditioner goes on the fritz, you could be facing a week or more without any cooling opportunities. At home, this may not be too much of a problem because you can go to the grocery store or movie theater. At work, it's more of an issue. While you're waiting for an AC repair company in Gainesville, GA, to fix your air conditioner, try these cooling ideas.

At Home

If you're intent on staying home when your house doesn't have AC, there are some things you can do to keep your cool. A cool bath or shower can help, but even better, put your swim suit on and run through the sprinkler. If you have children, it'll make for some great quality time. If not, you can harness your inner child.

Keep your ice maker full and enjoy cool drinks. If you're concerned about calories, unsweetened ice tea or water are great. Smoothies and milkshakes can also make the day more bearable.

Stay Hydrated. Your body's cooling mechanism is perspiration. Keeping your body hydrated will help it function at an optimal level. Water is the best fluid in this case.

At Work

As an employer or business owner, if your AC goes out, you could face a loss of productivity and fewer customers depending on your location. There are a few ways you can use this to strengthen your employees' bond with the company.

If possible, let people work at home. Studies show that people who work from home are more productive. This will be truer if they are able to work in comfort rather than having to sweat at the workplace.

Provide cold beverages. People love sodas, lemonade is always refreshing, and unsweetened iced tea is one of the few drinks that has flavor and no calories. At a minimum, you should supply water to keep people hydrated.

If you have customers coming to your place of business, see if you can reschedule meetings or the places where they will be held. If that's not possible, let your customers know you're working on getting the problem fixed.

Don't Wait

Waiting for an AC repair company in Gainesville, GA, can be mitigated if you have regular maintenance checks of your HVAC system. If you wait to take care of problems until the summer is in full swing, you may get caught in a high demand time that could limit the ability of some companies to quickly respond to service calls.
