Substance abuse and addiction can take complete control over one’s life — and when it comes time to seek help, it can get costly. Alcohol rehab centers from Los Angeles to the East Coast can be a great option for recovery, but with unemployment rates high and the necessary expenses that come with substance dependency, you might find that you can’t afford these centers.

But don’t give up. If you think you can’t afford rehab or treatment that doesn’t mean there aren’t other options for getting sober and maintaining your sobriety.

Support Groups

First, there are a plethora of support groups offered in Los Angeles and elsewhere.  These support groups — such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous — have proven to be helpful during and post recovery and even better, they are free. Through these free support groups you can attend meetings at your convenience, meet people that you can relate to and build relationships with people to help hold you accountable. Alcohol rehab centers offer a similar support system, but support groups are a good option for no-cost treatment.

Self-Help

With support groups, there is also a ton of information out there to help one understand his or her addiction, which could be the key to overcoming it. Self-help books, websites and other free resources offer advice, guidance, and overall education for getting sober. You can also read about other people’s stories for getting clean. The more help the better — the Internet is overflowing with helpful information and can be a good alternative to rehabilitation.

Scholarships

It’s important to realize that if you’re turned away from alcohol rehab centers because of the cost, you must keep looking. Some facilities offer special scholarships or financial aid programs to help individuals who need treatment and can’t afford it. Of course, these aren’t handed out everywhere by everyone — but that’s why it’s important to not give up and keep pursuing treatment in rehab centers, whether they are in Los Angeles or elsewhere.
