WHAT IS THE MAX ATTACHMENT?

by henry Henry The Global Blogs

All email service providers set a maximum email size that an email account may receive, mostly for security reasons. If there were no maximum email size restriction, the email server would run the danger of being overloaded with extremely huge emails, which would prevent it from functioning correctly.

The well-known email service from Google is called Gmail. It's quite likely that the user also uses a @Gmail email address for personal communications. Or, if the user is a professional, the user can be using G Suite while using a custom domain. A computer file delivered together with an email message is known as an attachment. Any email message can have one or more files attached to it that are then delivered to the receiver. Usually used as a quick way to send papers and pictures. The user generally asks what is the max attachment. The user's attachment size limit is 25 MB. The user's total attachment size cannot exceed 25 MB even if they have several attachments. Gmail automatically inserts a Google Drive link to the email instead of providing the user's file as an attachment if it is larger than 25 MB.

All email service providers set a max attachment size Gmail that an email account may receive, mostly for security reasons. If there were no max Gmail attachment size restriction, the email server would run the danger of being overloaded with extremely huge emails, which would prevent it from functioning correctly. Some free email service providers impose commercial restrictions on the maximum email size. The user can increase the maximum limit by upgrading to a premium account, however, the free account has a low maximum email size limit.

What happens when a user exceeds the email size restriction?

It goes without saying that if a user sends an email that is larger than the recipient's email provider's Gmail max attachment size restriction, the email will bounce, and the user will get an email error back in their mailbox. The user will typically see one of the following error messages:

  • "The size of the message the user is trying to send exceeds the global size limit of the server,"
  • The size of the attachment exceeds the allowable limit," "552: Message size exceeds the maximum permitted," "System Undeliverable," or "The size of the message the user is trying to send exceeds the outgoing message size limit."
  • Reduce the message size and try again if the message couldn't be sent.
