Recently, attachment parenting has been the buzzword coming out of every person's mouth, and probably you're curious to know what exactly it means. This parenting refers to a parenting style that includes care for the baby and emphasizes understanding the baby's specific needs.


This word was first used in the late 1950s within a theory coined Attachment Theory and included several types of attachment a parent can have with their child. The attachment developed in the early stages of a child's growth has a significant impact on a child's life in the future.


Experts in the twenty-first century have slightly modified the meaning of attachment parent. This new method is based on excelling past the physical connection provided by mothers to babies and focuses more on emotional attachment to children of all ages.

Generally, this parenting revolves around forming a strong connection with your baby starting from a young age which will grow and flouring as the child grows. It emphasizes building a healthy lifetime bond between parents and children.

Principles


There are six components in this parenting that can be helpful and gift your child some basic principles. If your child is beyond this stage, they will need something extra and no need to worry as these general principles can even be applied by teens.

Birth Bonding


This is the first principle and is a bonding that occurs during a biologically sensitive period that gives parents and infants a head start. However, this bonding does not usually take place immediately but will develop over time.

Breastfeeding


The first weeks of breastfeeding are exceptional in developing a bond between the infant and the mother. This is influenced mainly by skin-to-skin contact, which increases positive hormonal interactions.

Bedding close to the baby


Sleeping in the same room but on separate sleeping, beds will help you reap the benefits of nighttime attachment. Due to the fact that nighttime is mostly scary for tiny babies, sleeping next to them within a close touching distance significantly reduces nighttime separation anxiety and assists babies learn sleep is a pleasant state to enter and remain.

Babywearing


Babies surprisingly learn a lot when in the arms of the caregiver. Additionally, babywearing improves the parents' sensitivity because of the closeness, which in turn promotes familiarity with this type of parenting infants.
