What is Aged Parent and Relative Visa?
When it comes to immigration, there
are a lot of visas that are available to allow people from around the world to
come and live in Australia. In some cases, if you have elderly parents or
relatives who require care, you may be able to sponsor them and bring them over
on what’s known as an aged dependent relative visa 838.
This type of visa has strict
requirements that must be met, but once you can prove eligibility, it can help
your loved ones get the care they need while living close by in Australia.
Who can apply for this visa type?
If you are aged 65 or over or are a
dependent parent of someone aged 18 years or over, an Australian citizen, you
may be eligible for an aged parent visa. Different requirements depend on your
country of origin.
It is also available for applicants
that are grandparents of a child who is an Australian citizen, resident, or
eligible citizen living in Australia. It can even be granted to parents of a
child adopted by citizens/residents of Australia as long as they meet all other
requirements.
The criteria considered during the
assessment of applications for aged dependent relative visa 838.
To be eligible for a Contributory
Parent visa, you must meet certain criteria under each of these three
categories:
- Character
- Health
- Financial.
The Aged Parent and Relative visa are
also called the Contributory Parent or CP Visa. It is an Australian permanent
residence visa that allows parents who are citizens or permanent residents of
Australia to sponsor their parents who are over 65 years old or have
significant health problems so that they can live in Australia permanently with
them. To qualify for this visa, your parent needs to have an income (or own
property) and not receive government benefits in Australia.
How much are the fees?
You will need to pay several fees to
sponsor a parent or relative for an aged dependent relative visa
subclass 114. These fees vary depending on what visa you apply for and
where in Australia you live.
For example, if you live in
Western Australia and your family member is outside of that state, it will cost
more to have them sponsored by an Australian resident.
How long does it take to process a
visa application from start to finish?
Depending on where you apply, it can
take anywhere from four months to a year or more for an application to be
processed. The exception is if you are eligible for processing by Australia’s
Premium Processing Service, which has an estimated processing time of 15
days.
However, remember that Premium
Processing applies only if you have nominated Australia as your country of
choice to be assessed as a possible relative visa applicant.
