What is a good lawyer worth? Call Jose Baez tomorrow morning and ask him

So the trial of the decade is over and the jury came back with a verdict of not guilty on all major counts in the Casey Anthony trial.  Before I go any further let me clear up a couple of things.

First do I think Casey Anthony is responsible for the death of her daughter? Yes I do,  but not being one of 12 people siting in the jury box, I have that luxury which they did not.  Second not guilty means the Prosecution did not prove her guilty beyond a 'reasonable doubt' to the 12 people sitting in that box, it does not mean that she didn't commit the crime.

Jose Baez walked into a courtroom in a county where the prosecuting attorneys enjoy a 95% conviction rate, in a very high profile case and won.  Mr Baez did his job.  His only job as a defense attorney was to raise a 'reasonable doubt'. It's the prosecution's job to prove someone guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, the law is very clear on that point.

Now we can sit here and second guess the jury, claim a travesty of justice and everything else but the truth is in the U.S. we all enjoy the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.  In this case Casey Anthony was judged guilty in the court of public opinion but the court of public opinion is not a legal one.

None of us watching that trial on television really knows what happened in that courtroom.  We do not know what evidence the jury was allowed to consider. what we do know is that somewhere, somehow Jose Baez did what he was hired to do, raise a reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors.  Is it galling? Yes it is, but he was the better lawyer in this case.

So I wonder, if you called his office in the morning and asked his rates, what would he say?  I bet it won't be cheap and I know that I couldn't afford to hire him, good thing I'm not planning to murder anyone.  But I can afford a good attorney, as a matter of fact I can afford a good law firm to handle all of my legal needs right down to a 10 cent problem if necessary.  Why don't you ask me how I can afford it?
