If you are a die-hard fan of crime thrillers and see yourself directing a movie in this genre in near future then there are certain things that you ought to know. The most important of them is knowledge of basic elements to keep your audience engaged.

A good bollywood thriller should be packed with intense drama, suspense and tension. In order to keep the audience hooked to the movie screens, you must take some important steps that can work in your favor. Here are some of them.

Storyline is the king

There is one common thing between popular crime thrillers “American Psycho” and “Silence of the Lambs”, they have an impeccable storyline that evokes interest in audience. A great storyline is the crux of any popular thriller drama. As per latest Bollywood news, the last Indian crime thriller that made it big on the box office was Talaash. And we all know what went into the making of it.

The plot of the movie should be woven in such way that it isolates the protagonist from the regular surroundings and make him vulnerable.

Conflicting and strong characters

You must have studied about the importance of strong characters if you are lucky enough to get graduated from one of the best filmmaking schools in the country. Strong characters are most required to build a perfect thriller movie because they are the one who push the movie forward though their internal conflict between logic and emotions. Most thriller movies have complex characters having some sort of an internal conflict. Basically, these internal conflicts make the character and movie much more interesting.

Multiple points of views

Confusion and conflicts are the prime element of a thriller drama and one can only arrive at that when one has multiple characters that showcase multiple points of views. So many conflicting views coming together makes the movie much more interesting and keep the audiences engaged all the while. It also does not allow the audience to come down to any conclusion just like that.

Cliffhangers

This one is the inevitable yet the most difficult to build in a crime thriller. It is like providing some clues to the audience but not letting them know the entire truth at the same time. Cliffhangers have to be clear but they must have a tendency to delusion the audience in near future. They are the toughest points to be put in the script.
