What Are The Effects Of Various Drugs On A Pregnant Woman

by Anna Rose Blogger

Pregnancy is a particular psychological condition taking in drugs should be strictly controlled because it might harm both the mother and her child. On a specific situation, it is necessary for the mother to take in some form of drugs, but it should be done only under a doctor's prescription. When you are a would-be, the mother and life are slowly forming inside you; then it is your responsibility to take care of that fetus, and let it have a healthy life. The mental and physical changes that occur in a woman when they are pregnant is the result by most of the women resort to taking drugs.

How Does The Drug Reach Your Baby?

Drugs, when taken in by a pregnant woman, reach the fetus through the placenta. The fetus's blood vessels, somewhat like hair, are present in the placenta around the wall of the uterus. The mother's blood passes through the space surrounding these blood vessels.  A thin membrane separates the mother's blood and the fetus's blood. So the drugs can easily cross this barrier and go over to the other side into the fetus through the umbilical cord.

Effects Of Drugs On My Body

  • Marijuana – It consists of various marijuana which, when inhaled in enhances the carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in your blood. When they pass into your baby's blood, it stops the baby from receiving enough oxygen to grow. Smoking in marijuana causes a higher risk of miscarriage, premature birth, and low birth weight.
  • Tobacco – Cigarettes, one of the prime addiction objects contains nicotine, and it is necessary to quit on it when you are pregnant. It results in the reduction of birth weight, sudden infant death syndrome, misallocated placenta, miscarriages, uterine infections and many more.
  • Cocaine – Cocaine if taken in, even during the early months of pregnancy, might result in some or other sort of problem for your child. Cocaine stays in your baby's blood for a longer time than it stays in your body — cocaine results in blood loss, premature birth and even death of the baby.
  • Alcohol – Alcohol is one of the leading reason for causing some or other sort of problems in pregnant women, so it is better to avoid alcohol altogether. Alcohol increases the risk of miscarriages; the baby may be abnormally underweight for women binging on heavy alcohol drinking. It will be best for any pregnant woman to visit a drug rehab for pregnant mothers and ultimately get over any form of addiction.

Being a mother is not an easy job, it requires lots of sacrifices, bearing down, but when another life depends on your lifestyle habits, it is necessary that you abstain from any drugs during pregnancy. If it causes any harm to your baby, no one will be more regretful than you, since you were the carrier of the baby. So it is better to remain to cleanse at least during the nine months.
