Westlake Homeowners Asked to Approve School District Budget Change

homeowners and those considering Westlake homes for sale should be
aware of a new tax proposal by the Eanes Independent School District
Board of Trustees that will affect tax rates for Westlake homes if
approved at the November 7, 2017 election. Known as the “Penny Swap
& Drop,” the Eanes Board is asking residents to approve the
plan, which effectively moves around pennies from the budget in order
to give the school district more flexibility in how it spends its
money.
Those looking for Westlake
homes for sale
can take into consideration that part of the tax rate would decrease
by 3.25 cents, as a result of removing two pennies from the debt part
of the budget and moving it to the operating part of the budget. This
would give the school district an additional $3 million that would
remain within the Westlake community. An important factor for
homebuyers looking for Westlake homes for sale and also for current
Westlake homeowners is the effective tax rate, as this can represent
a large portion of a monthly mortgage or a large yearly
expense.
Board President Dr. Colleen Jones said the goal of
this election item is to “help us meet our shared commitments to
the children of Eanes ISD and the entire community.” She said the
provision “allows us to fund and preserve the quality education
we've built for our students and families.”
Westlake homes
are zoned for the Eanes district, which represents one of the
wealthiest areas in the state. As a result, much of the collected tax
is distributed to other school districts in Texas that have less
wealth among their tax rolls than the tax rolls for Westlake
homes.
