by Arun Malik Sharjah Indian School, Sharjah International SchooThe whole world is under maintenance and every individual is advised to stay at home. Families, living in Sharjah, are now accustomed to living at home and their children are continuing their education at home. COVID 19 outbreak thrashed many Schools in Sharjah by making them incapable to conduct classes. Thanks to technologies like mobile, laptops, internet, communication software, online learning apps and other sharing tools. This has spurred work from home and online learning possible.
But online learning seems quite challenging for CBSE schools in Sharjah as well as students attending it. A majority of schools in Sharjah declared that ‘online education seems a tough task compared to traditional learning’. Owing to multiple challenges arising from both sides, schools & students.
Students
are stressful because they never experienced the new system. They don’t know
how to manage studies without face-to-face assistance. As we know, adaptation
to new technology demands time and learning. ‘Self-motivation and self-learning
are key’, quoted by CBSE schools authorities in Sharjah.
Why are school students stressed out?
●
Vicious
Coronavirus: Many schools in Sharjah reported stress and fear in
students between 12 - 20 years. Just as adults, students are foreseeing future
repercussions of the virus. The virus
has attacked the parent’s income, job and child’s education itself. Students
are worried about how their dreams are crushed. For example-
1. Excelling academics & acquiring good grades
2. Winning medals in sports activities
3. Participating in Interschool Drawing competition
4. Volunteering/ Hosting Annual Day Function etc
· No Personal attention: Learning online ignores personal attention that a student gets in traditional classes. Most CBSE schools in Sharjah are working on giving personal attention to queries. There are possibilities where students can face stress in completing their assignments & homework on time.
· Lack of clarity in Lectures: As teachers are completely new to teaching online, they are confused. They are habitual to offline classroom teaching. Teachers' inefficiency to teach behind the screen forms obscurity about a subject/topic/lesson in the students’ mind. However, big CBSE schools are doing a tremendous job to train their teachers & provide them with desired support.
Schools in Sharjah have advised their staff to guide students during online classes by enabling the option to comment(available in many free E-learning software). Students are also advocated to read the chapter/lesson before attending virtual class for better understanding & interactive classes.
● Connectivity Problems: Some students encounter internet issues & poor device compatibility. Due to this, they can miss important lessons scheduled during that time.
