Volunteer Today to Feeding the Future of the Nation

Millions of children in India are suffering from hidden hunger. The number goes up with every passing day. While there are many initiatives being planned and executed by various organisations, the need is a lot more. It is important to step up and volunteer towards the cause which are working towards feeding the children. They are the future of our nation. So it is important to feed the future now.

On the occasion of World Hunger Day in 2017, a special campaign called Feed The Future Now was launched by The Akshaya Patra Foundation. The campaign offers volunteering opportunities which will help you participate in the initiatives that will help in feeding nutritious meals to school children. You may also opt to donate for children under the campaign that aims to feed 5 billion school meals by 2020.

Why is it vital to feed the children with nutritious meals? That’s because hunger is standing in the way of not only the physical growth of the children but also is a hurdle to their mental growth. The parents need to take up different jobs in order to feed so many mouths. As a result of this, the older siblings drop out of schools so they can care for their younger ones back home. Worse, the food that they get is not necessarily nutritious. As a result, even when they do get food, many of them remain stunted.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation started serving school children back in 2000 as an effort to feed the future. That way, children got both nutritious meals as well as education. You can be a part of the initiative with Feed The Future Now by participating in volunteering opportunities. Thanks to several donors who donated for children, the nutritious meals today are prepared in 31 kitchens in India. The foundation supplies wholesome lunch to school children in 30 locations across 12 states in India.  Over 1.6 million school children have already been benefitted in 13,808 schools.

You can be a donor and donate for children but that’s not the only way the cause needs your help. You can help the kitchen staff prepare mid-day meals. Many volunteers find it a fruitful opportunity to connect with the kitchen staff and learn from them the techniques they use to cook hygienic meals.

When it comes to feeding the future, the cause needs a lot of engineering in terms of planning and co-ordination. You can help us in field work by visiting schools. You can serve meals to the children and at the same time organise an event with them. This will help you take a break from the daily routine. The children will get to have some fun time as they participate in the activities.
