Various Types Of Warehouses In Modern Logistics Space

‘Supply chain management’, the word may sound utterly simple but a lot of effort and hard work goes in its maintenance. Supply chain basically links manufacturers, importers, suppliers, and the customer’s all together, making sure that no losses take place during the entire process. In order to get the best results out of a supply chain, there are few procedures that managers must take.

First of all, it is important to understand what kind of supply chain models are out there. Some of them are listed below.

Build-to-order supply chains:  This is one of the supply chain models that are often used in modern industrial space. Many of the companies are into assembling various parts to create a finished product. Dell is one of the most popular brands that do so. They take the online order for assembling the system into the preferred configurations of the customer.  The supply chain, in this case, has to be hyperactive as there may be chances that some or other parts may be available at multiple locations. The experience for the customers would be very convenient as they would not have to stick to the limited choices of readymade products and thus creating a better market value for themselves. The swiftness of the supply chain is the key factor here as there might be a lot of work involved to be organized in the limited amount of time.

Integrated make-to-stock-model: The Integrated Make to the Stock model of the supply chain in a way is self-explanatory.  The manufacturer or the company focuses on getting the real-time demand of the product in the market in any form possible. The company has to keep a good eye on the market on the demand to supply ratio of their products and the fields in which the competitors are working. This model helps the companies to have a real-time watch on the total process in order to develop and amplify their business. The supply chain has to be fully integrated with everything that the business management is thinking so as the chain is up to the mark with the commodities.

Chain assembly Model: This is an improvement upon the build-to-order model, where the supply chain is the backbone of even the manufacturing.  The parts are assembled on the route of the supply chain and then the finished product is delivered to the customer. Most often this model is accomplished by an alliance with third-party logistics companies. They work with big brands like Flipkart and Snapdeal to execute high-value demand to supply execution. They are the torchbearers in the current scenario of Supply chain in India.

Continuous replenishment model:  This is the most regular and ancient model that has been practiced in the field of logistics and supply chain. In this case, the logistics department or company has to work in close contact with the suppliers because this may involve a heavy trafficking of commodities.  The real-time demand is of the great essence as they keep on changing frequently. The production process has to be in constant work mode if this type of supply chain is working up to its mark.

Besides the above-mentioned way to categorizing supply chains, warehouses can be categorized as private, public, and co-operatively owned.
