by Karen C. Health Guide

Custom pins have become a trend in most of the companies not only in the U.S but everywhere across the globe. This method of identification was invented back in the 19th century but its popularity has made them the best way organization can distinguish them with. The increased uses of the pins over the years have led to the advancement of a variety of attachments to the wearers clothing.

There are two main categories of the custom lapel pins from which all the other varieties lie in.

1.    Attaching custom pins

2.    Wearing custom pins

Attaching custom pins

Just as their word sounds, the pins are designed to be attached to one’s clothing or fittings. Varieties of custom pins in this category include;

Hat pins and stick pins. Hat pins are the most ancient and are specifically designed for women. The identification button in this pin is an approximately right angle to the pin which is pierced to the lapel and hidden from sight. Stick pins, on the other hand, are designed for men.

Tie Tacks. As hat pins were with the women, tie tacks were popularly designed for men. The identification button was designed with a short pin piercing the fabric that was to be secured with a clip. Today this type of pins has been highly evolved with a more secure attachment. It is also the most commonly used attachment in most of the organizations today.

Magnets. This is yet another method that has become increasingly popular over the years. The susceptible metals used to design the pin are magnetized and well secured through the fabric with the use of a small magnet. The biggest benefit of using this method is the fabric need not be pierced to secure the pin. The only disadvantage of this type of pin is it can never stick on thick fabric since the magnetic field cannot be established.

Wearing custom pins

This kind of pins was initially confined to men, but women have also developed creative ways of wearing them. Men usually wear them on their coat lapel. In less formal occasions, the pins were attached to their shirt collar. Most of these pins are less expensive and are majorly used for recognition purposes.

Today, wearing pins are also very common in women as they have developed a variety of creative ways of wearing them. For instance, you might find the pins anywhere in the fittings including jacket lapel and purse straps. To women, the custom pins are more of fashion accessories while representing an organization for outstanding services.

For a wide of the population, custom pins have become part of everyday wardrobe just like a wristwatch. Whether fitted on a business suit, ball cap or at your purse, it has become more of an item of personal distinction in our way of life.
