As students graduate from their high schools and move on to higher education, the temptations to abuse drugs and alcohol go along with them. You can blame it on the media and the images that we see and associate with the college lifestyle but the problems remain the same.

The university lifestyle is prone to being involved with the idea of drugs and alcohol abuse. There are a few ways that parents can empower themselves and help their students to make the right decision when the time for decision-making comes. There are also things that Students can do to keep themselves safe and avoid lifelong addiction as well.

Although the lists for which of the country’s universities has the highest rate of drug or alcohol abuse vary, it is important to note that this type of abuse can happen anywhere so it is vital that these kids learn how to control themselves and draw lines where they need to be.

The number one thing that parents can do is to make sure that their kids have a safe and educational experience at whatever university they attend is to make sure that they have an educational path etched out for them. If they are driven by goals geared towards their education then they are less likely to have free time to get mixed up in crowds or situations that could place them at risk.

But the responsibility also lies in the student. Before someone attends college, it is a good idea to decide on the type of person that you want to be. It is smart to set boundaries for yourself and choose a good group of friends that will help you to accomplish your goals and be the type of person that you want to be. By doing this, you can avoid the chains of alcohol abuse and drug addiction as well as provide yourself a much better college experience all around, making the whole experience worth the effort.
