Understanding The Diagnosis And Treatment Of Hernia

hernia treatment

The hernia has been a medical problem for a long time. It is a condition where a part of an organ protrudes through a weak part of the abdominal wall. More and more people are getting this disease these days, partly from a weak abdominal wall  and partly due to leading an unhealthy lifestyle. Hernia surgery in Kolkata has increased a lot in number in recent years. But if Hernia is diagnosed within time properly, it can be treated easily without the risks of any complications.

The diagnosis of hernia treatment is easy. If a bulge has appeared in your abdomen, it means you have a hernia. You would also feel pain whenever you strain yourself. Other times, if a bulge has not appeared, you still might have a hernia. Doing a full body checkup can sometimes detect a hernia. Once it is detected the main point of hernia is also found, and treatment is suggested. Ultrasound scans and x-rays are used in such cases.

The only treatment for hernia is surgery. There are two ways to this surgery. One is Herniorrhaphy and the other one is Hernioplasty.

Herniorrhaphy

It is also known as tissue repair. Herniorrhaphy is the oldest kind of hernia medical procedure. In this process, the surgeon makes a long entry point over the hernia to get access to it. Tissues or organs are then returned to their unique area, and the hernia sac is removed. The surgeon then fastens the sides of the muscle opening or gap through which the hernia protruded. After the injury has been cleaned, it is stitched closed.

Hernioplasty

In Hernioplasty, rather than stitching the muscle opening shut, the surgeon covers it with a mesh, made of plastics, for example, polypropylene, or animal tissue. The surgeon makes little cuts around the opening and stitches the mesh to healthy surrounding tissues. The weak muscle uses the mesh as support as they regrow, which leads to a decrease of the bulge. Hernioplasty is a very effective and safe procedure.

There isn’t much prevention to hernia. After hernia surgery, there could be some side effects. If not taken care of properly, the wound can get infected, which would complicate the healing process all the more. You would also feel surgery pain. But one common complication is the recurrence of the hernia. If you neglect your post-surgery care, there is a good chance that your hernia can recur . You need to give time to your weak muscles to regrow and heal properly before you can do any heavy work.

So, take extra care of yourself after surgery and consult your doctor if the Hernia surgery pain persists.
