Yoga blocks come in different sizes and the dimensions are most important. The idea is to use them to stretch. The cork block is used at each of their various heights – standing on the skinny end. The blocks are great for positions such as downward dog as they help take a lot of pressure off the arms and upper body in this pose. Yoga straps are another popular yoga accessories. Inexpensive, a simple tool, the yoga cotton strap can be most. In fact strap will be something you will continue to use even as an advanced yoga practice. An average yoga strap will range in length from six to nine feet long and is made of cotton or hemp. There is a buckle to be able to loop the strap securely. The taller you are, the longer a strap you will need. It’s particularly useful for ham string stretching and helps add resistance too.


Yoga clothing, yoga mats and props are now widely available online as well as sport shops. Mats and clothes are probably the most popular of all yoga accessories and there are numerous ranges, styles and types of mats for yoga available today. For a beginner, the mat should be nicely cushioned and durable with a good, string grip. Ethical mats are a good choice to as are free from undesirable elements.


Yoga water bottles are also very useful more so for hot yoga. Aluminum water bottles are great for the environment anyway and help reduce the plastic wastage caused by all the water bottles we throw away. This way you simply replenish your bottle daily and carry with you to your yoga class. This way you are doing your bit for the environment too.


Headbands, hand towels and mat towels are generally more popular with the hot yoga enthusiasts.  Mat towels really help keep the mat dry provide some extra cushioning too.
