by Akash Sharma Akash Sharma

Plywood refers to wood panels made of multi-layered veneer, bonded together with glue. While the term is still accurate, today the name plywood has become more generic, being used to refer to all types of engineered wood panels. It is a necessity for many projects, from building cabinetry in the laundry room to building your dream summerhouse in the backyard. However, if you’re not an experienced plywood shopper, the numerous options at the hardware store can seem overwhelming. To decipher what is the best plywood for your project you need to know how they differ. These are the different types of plywood you would encounter at your local hardware store or with Plywood Supplier in Mumbai

·         Softwood

Softwood plywood can also create things like sheds, dog-houses, cabinets, shelves and more. Although the name implies that these woods aren’t as strong as others, you might be surprised to know that construction workers typically use softwoods for exterior frame sheathing, roof sheathing, and sub-flooring.

·         Hardwood

Hardwoods are best for things like furniture, packing cases, sporting equipment, musical instruments, and other intricate projects that require strong frames. It has between three and seven layers and uses hardwoods, like birch, maple, oak, and walnut. The incredibly strong finish can be attributed to the fact that the layers are glued to each other at right angles.

·         Aircraft

You’ll need this type of plywood in projects that need industrial-strength, like airplanes, boats, and furniture that’s meant to hold a lot of weight. This ply uses mahogany or birch for a strong finish which offers the perfect balance of strength and flexibility, while still having the strength for the hefty jobs.

·         Exterior

Exterior wood stands against the elements to provide a strong, sturdy structure for years to come. These sheets typically have several veneers glued together, classifying them as multi-ply. It has weather and water-resistant glue that holds each veneer together. Exterior plywood provides a strong framework which can easily handle wind, rain and other harsh weather.

·         Marine

Marine plywood is a specially manufactured plywood so that it performs longer in wet and humid conditions and resists fungal attack and delaminating. It is constructed such that it can be used in environments where it is exposed to moisture fir long periods of time. Regular plywood is made out of three to five layers of wood, while marine plywood has twice as many layers. You’ll see marine-grade woods used mostly on outdoor furniture and decorative pieces, like summer houses, plant boxes, and outdoor furniture like benches.
