A microwave oven is one of the most versatile appliances we have in our kitchens. It is not just a reheating device but can also be used for baking, cooking and thawing- thus solving all our cooking needs. Owing to their great demand, there are different types of microwaves available in the market today, catering to different needs. All these microwaves come with a different set of features and this often confuses the buyers as to which one will be best for them. Here we tell you the points that you must keep in mind when buying a microwave oven. But before that, let us understand the different types of microwaves available in the market:

1-Solo Microwave Oven: these models use high-frequency waves to heat the food inside out.

2-Grill Microwave Oven: these oven models come with a grill heater placed inside which provides a grilling effect similar to barbequing.

3-Convection Microwave Oven: convection ovens have a fan inside which allows air circulation and this makes these ovens perfect for baking cookies and cakes.

Now let’s look at the features that you must look for when buying a microwave oven:

Child Lock: if you have kids at home, choosing a microwave oven with a child-lock feature would just be the best option for you. To operate the appliance, one needs to put a four-digit code and only then can it be accessed. It, therefore, helps in keeping kids safe around the appliance.

Multi-stage Cooking: this feature allows cooking food at varied power settings depending on the stage of the cooking cycle. With this oven, you would not need to interrupt the cooking cycle after every few minutes. Rather, you simply program it to change the settings as per the specific cooking stages.

Turntable: this feature ensures that the food is cooked evenly. This is done by putting the food item on a revolving glass plate. The feature is available in mid-sized as well as full-sized ovens. If you are planning to buy a built-in oven, make sure that it is equipped with this feature.

Interlocks: this feature of the microwave adds another layer of security by ensuring that it does not operate until and unless the door is open. Nowadays, majority of the microwaves come with two interlocks, where the second one works as a backup lock.

Automatic sensors: this feature helps you know when the food is cooked completely by measuring the amount of steam in the chamber. You don’t need to set a timer and this eliminates the worry of food being undercooked or overcooked.

Now that you know about the various features microwave come with, go ahead and buy the one that suits your requirements.
