For digital marketing companies, it’s important that brands remain consistently relevant in the media. This can become difficult when a brand’s identity relies heavily on an annual event or a specific season. The National Football League (NFL) — a prime example of staying relevant — took no time to hibernate from the media during this year’s off-season when it announced its plan to broadcast Thursday night football games on Twitter. The news was surprising but exciting for football fans around the country.

Partnership

Back in April 2016, the NFL announced its new partnership with the booming social media platform — Twitter. The news shocked the ears’ of the public but is already yielding huge opportunities for both NFL digital marketing companies as well as Twitter’s network popularity. We will soon be seeing the social media platform being used to stream live sports for the very first time in history. The NFL is kicking off the new trend this fall with its plan to stream 10 NFL football games on Thursday nights.

Live Twitter Stream

The goal is to give around 800 million users the opportunity to watch live NFL games on the twitter channel currently being used for short-form comments, GIFs and videos. The live stream takes the channel’s ability to another level for digital marketing companies, costing Twitter a $10 million gamble on the new idea. The question remains: How exactly will it work? How the games will be presented is still undergoing discussion, but they have committed to the NFL package and partnership moving forward.

The Chosen 10

Twitter has announced they will be showcasing the NFL Thursday night games from all three channels, which includes NBC, CBS and the NFL Network.  The 10 NFL games chosen for live stream via Twitter include the Jets at the Bills, the Texans at the Patriots, the Cardinals at the 49ers, the Broncos at the Chargers, the Bears at the Packers, the Saints at the Panthers, the Cowboys at the Vikings, the Raiders at the Chiefs, the Rams at the Seahawks, and the Giants at the Eagles.
